3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing (APRE 3500)

This course offers students an in-depth learning experience about the 3D printing process. Students will delve into the entire process of additive manufacturing, from the initial concept to the final creation, emerging with a deeper appreciation of the 3D printing process, it’s applications and it’s potential to revolutionize the manufacturing industry.

Students will learn:

  • history and definition of 3D printing
  • differences between 3D printing and traditional manufacturing methods
  • 3D modeling techniques and file formats
  • latest advancements in 3D scanning technologies
  • material properties and the wide range of materials commonly used in 3D printing, including plastics and metals
  • essential post-processing techniques, such as cleaning, heat treatment, bonding, and finishing
  • the process of planning the design, printing and finishing a product.
