Course Overview
This course provides a hands-on opportunity to embark on a journey into the world of 3D printing. Through a structured workflow, going through pre-processing, printing and post-processing, individuals navigate the 3D printing process, beginning with the identification of key components of a printer and the understanding of its fundamental elements, such as the role of the "slicer." Central to the 3D printing workflow is the utilization of slicing software, aptly named the "slicer," which translates digital designs into printable instructions. Within this digital workspace, users adeptly navigate settings to optimize material usage and load 3D models for fabrication. This phase underscores the significance of correct positioning, orientation, and scaling, ensuring precise execution of designs. Simultaneously, users delve into the intricacies of print parameter settings, balancing factors like quality, strength, supports, and build plate adhesion to achieve desired outcomes. These meticulous adjustments culminate in the generation of G-Code, the language of 3D printing, which, when translated, orchestrates the printer's movements during fabrication. Beyond the digital realm, the post-printing process ushers in a series of refinements to transform raw prints into refined, polished final products. Armed with support removal tools, practitioners remove structural scaffolding, paving the way for smooth, visually appealing surfaces. - Describe the value and applications of 3D printed parts.
- Identify the key components of a 3D printer and the 3D printing workflow.
- Explain the purpose and main features of a slicer in 3D printing.
- Compare the impact of nozzle size and layer height on print quality.
- Select appropriate 3D printer and nozzle settings for specific projects.
- Navigate and utilize the Bambu slicer workspace, including loading and positioning models.
- Describe the importance and techniques for correct positioning, orientation, and scaling of 3D models.
- Adjust print parameter settings for quality, strength, supports, and build plate adhesion.
- Slice a 3D model, analyze slicing results, and prepare G-Code for printing.
- Describe and apply best practices for post-processing, including support removal, sanding, smoothing, priming, and painting.
