Full-Time Studies

If you’ve been accepted into a full-time program, you must pay a commitment fee (deposit) to hold your seat in the program. The commitment fee is applied to your tuition and is non-refundable and non-transferable. For the majority of programs, the commitment fee is as follows:

• $200 for trades programs
• $500 for technology programs
• $3,000 for international applicants

Exceptions:

Ancillary fees are mandatory fees that help fund many campus and student services and are included with your total tuition. These fees are paid by most students so that all students benefit from having access to a broad range of supports and services. For specific fee amounts, see the fee breakdown for your program or course.

Ancillary fees are used to finance the following services and facilities:

Learning Resources

Supports academic services and educational materials that enrich the learning experience for students and faculty. Specifically, this fee helps fund learning resources including online databases, e-books, books, journals, standards & codes, multimedia, videos, and course materials; and support services including academic research support, peer tutoring, writing support, and interlibrary loans. Rates usually vary between $33.01 to $87.88 per term, depending on the program.

Student Services

Supports services that enhance student success and the overall BCIT student experience. Specifically, this fee helps fund services including a broad range of mental health supports including counselling, accessibility, and health services; supports for students at risk or in crisis, including early intervention systems/processes and financial aid programs; and student programming to increase engagement and well-being such as recreation services, peer supports, and orientation and transition activities. Rates vary between $18.26 to $27.39 per term with the exception of trades programs which is assessed at a weekly rate of $1.49. There is no Student Services fee applied for co-op terms.

Student Technology

Supports technology embedded in the student experience such as applications and software used for learning and teaching, including remote access to those applications and software, and remote access to well-being services and supports. The rate is $24.48 per term. There is no Student Technology fee applied for co-op terms.

Building

Supports new construction and/or improvements to the existing physical infrastructure for academic and non-academic student spaces/buildings and informal learning spaces. This fee also supports the associated cost and operations of buildings, spaces and facilities used by the Institute community. Rates vary between $9.11 to $13.67 per term with the exception of trades programs which is assessed at a weekly rate of $0.76. There is no Building fee applied for co-op terms.

Funds from Government and donations from industry partners and donors contribute significant funding towards new capital projects.

Student ID Card

Used to generate and maintain student ID cards required by students for integration and connection to campus services, both virtual and in-person.  In addition, these cards may be used to gain access to labs and classrooms as well as to verify identification for exams or other testing. The rate is $2.50 per term. There is no Student ID Card fee applied for co-op terms.

• SA Centre Building Fee

*Full-time, eligible students in technology, trades, or technical studies programs running for 16 weeks or longer are automatically covered by the BCITSA Student Health and Dental Plan. If the student is already covered for comparable extended health and dental benefits, they have the option to opt-out of their student plan. Important: The Opt-Out and Family Add-On deadlines are 30 days from the start of their program, once per 12 months. After the deadline, Opt-Outs and Add-Ons cannot be processed.

Accident insurance

BCIT has a Student Accident Insurance Program that covers everything from a cracked tooth to a broken leg.

Insurance under WorkSafeBC

Employers pay the WorkSafeBC premium for all students participating in a required practicum at a recognized work site. Student apprentices are also covered during classroom, lab, and shop instruction.

Total tuition for Trades and Technical studies programs also includes a tool deposit and a lab or flying fee.

The total tuition cost listed in the full-time tuition schedules does not include the U-Pass BC fee. The U-Pass BC fee will be charged upon registration and is a mandatory fee for all eligible students.

The cost of textbooks and study materials is additional to program and other mandatory fees. There are a few exceptions that are outlined in the program or course description. Check the BCIT Bookstore for most books and supplies. Students may be required to supply their own coveralls for use in some programs.

New international students may be charged an International health insurance fee. For details about this fee and the medical insurance requirement for international students, visit the Medical Insurance page for international students.

Although it’s not required for most programs, it is recommended that you possess a personal computer capable of running the current version of MS Office and a web browser, as well as have an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) of your choice.
