Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee

A Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) is an advisory group made up of employers and employees working together to improve occupational health and safety in their workplace.

WorkSafeBC requires a JOHSC for all workplaces with 20 or more workers.

Committee membership comprises of Management, BCGEU and FSA members.  For more information see the terms of reference for your JOHSC on SharePoint.

The member’s Department/School pays for:

• 8-hours of education annually, which JOHSC members are entitled to.
• 8-hours of JOHSC new member orientation which is required within six months of becoming a new member.
• The time to conduct JOHSC business, and prepare for, and attend, JOHSC meetings.
• The equipment, premises and clerical personnel necessary for the carrying out of its duties and functions.
