First aid procedures are available online for each campus through SharePoint.

Qualifications and Supplies

All campuses have fully stocked first aid rooms and Intermediate first aid kits. During regular hours, all campuses have Intermediate Occupational First Aid Attendants, including when security guards act as first aid attendants. BCIT security guards are trained as Basic Occupational First Aid Attendants, and have access to a Basic first aid kit.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)

AEDs are available at all BCIT campuses for responding to any cardiac incidents. The BCIT Burnaby Campus has 30 AEDs throughout the campus, including one in the first aid room and one in the security truck that can be brought directly to the location where needed. All BCIT occupational first aid attendants and security guards are trained to use the AEDs.

Non-Emergency Patient Transport

If an injured/ill patient requires non-emergency transport to medical aid, BCIT First Aid can arrange for a taxi (paid for by the institute) to transport the patient to the desired medical facility. The BCIT First Aid Attendant may accompany the patient to medical aid as deemed necessary. If a BCIT Student at the Burnaby Campus is injured/ill requiring non-emergency medical aid, BCIT first aid can call Student Health Services and see if a doctor can view them on campus, and can assist the student in getting to Student Health Services as needed. NOTE: Student Health Services is only available to BCIT Students.
