Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Metro Vancouver region as of August 11, 2025. During this period, maximum temperatures are expected to consistently exceed 29°C, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Please take precautions to stay safe:
- Wear light, breathable clothing.
- Take breaks and avoid strenuous activities.
- Stay in cool, shaded, or air-conditioned areas.
- Drink plenty of cold water to stay hydrated.
For more information, review Provincial Government resources and Fraser Health guidelines on preventing and responding to heat-related illness.
Please note that there may be disruption to Institute activities and operations during the heat warning period to reduce the risk of heat-related illness. Follow directions provided by your instructors and supervisors for any changes in your areas.
There may also be disruptions to operating hours of BCIT Recreation facilities. Please check the BCIT Recreation Services Instagram (@bcitrec) for operational updates. We recommend avoiding high-exertion recreational activities during peak heat hours.
If you or someone else is experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness, contact the First Aid or Security office on campus. Call 911 immediately if it is an emergency.
Please contact BCIT Health, Safety and Environment Division if you have any concerns about safe work and operations during this heat warning period.
