Sample Syllabus Statements

Don’t

  • Ask students to use GenAI in any way that requires them to enter their personal information (e.g., signing up for a personal account).
  • Expect that you can catch students who use GenAI by using GenAI detectors.
    1. Use of AI detection tools is prohibited at BCIT.
    2. Uploading student work to a GenAI tool without the student’s consent is prohibited at BCIT.
    3. Any system that claims to detect the use of GenAI doesn’t work.
    4. False positives are VERY high (especially with anyone whose first language isn’t English).
    5. You will waste valuable time trying to interpret incomprehensible dashboards that provide “scores” based on numerous metrics.
