Awards and Certification

BC Hydro Clean Energy Champion

BCIT named Clean Energy Champion by BC Hydro. BCIT was recognized by BC Hydro for our work and commitment to reduce 100% of our C02 emissions by 2050. BC Hydro acknowledged BCIT’s “Living Labs” approach for building efficient and low-carbon buildings. (Learn more)

WELL Certification: NW04 (Health Sciences Centre) 

WELL is the leading tool for advancing building design that prioritizes the health and well-being of building occupants. BCIT has been working to towards WELL Gold Certification since the early planning of the new Health Sciences Centre. WELL is based on 10 design considerations from air quality, to light. LEED Certification: SW01 

The SW1 Gateway Building, that includes office, study and gathering space, is the first BCIT building to achieve LEED® Gold Certification.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized rating system based on principles and practices that make building construction and operations more sustainable.

The certification process typically takes around three years after construction is complete during which the Canadian Green Building Council, who oversees LEED certification in Canada, conducts a series of project reviews.

These reviews include ongoing building systems monitoring to ensure building performance. (Learn more)

Greenest Employer
