Energy Saving Tips
Help keep your space comfortable
As the weather gets colder we all want to have a well-heated space. There are several ways we can make sure that heating to the desired temperature does not waste energy.
Our building thermostat systems are set to maintain a comfortable temperature, even during after-hours when it maintains above 16C-18C. This means that if windows and doors are left open, the heating systems have to work harder to heat the space and thereby wasting energy and emitting greenhouse gases.
Here are some tips to keep your space comfortable and save energy:
- Make sure that all windows and doors are closed when rooms are not in use.
- Blinds can help reduce heat loss on cold nights, so consider closing them in the evenings.
- Turn off lights when rooms are not in use.
- Make sure computers are either shutdown or in hibernate / standby mode.
- If your space is uncomfortable (either too hot or too cold) let us know via a Facilities Work Request.
Save energy use on lighting
- Use natural light whenever possible
- Turn off lights when not in use
- Buy lamps with higher lumen/Watt, which is printed on the product
- Avoid using incandescent lamps
- Use task lighting and reduce the brightness level of the room
