AI at BCIT Computing

• Computer Systems Technology teaches a progression of mathematics and computing fundamentals, providing students with the required fundamentals for applying, developing, and innovating with AI, and importantly, reviewing and critiquing AI-generated code.
• Students synthesize solutions to novel problems using AI.
• Students can extend deeper in the field and apply for the AIML Option in second year of the full-time diploma. Applied AIML work focuses on applying different machine learning techniques to data sets, developing AIML systems, as well as evaluating the performance of machine learning systems.
• The CST program is also available in Computing Flexible Learning.

• Computer Information Technology students are introduced to AI tools, including how Large Language Models (LLMs) work and their limitations, as well as Machine Learning (ML) basics for data analytics.
• IT generalists are using AI to make their jobs easier and to speed up tasks.

• AI is interwoven into the B.Sc. in Applied Computer Science, as it applies to the study of data, applications development, application security, game development, and cybersecurity.
• A full required course, COMP 8085: Artificial Intelligence, is devoted to AI, and provides expertise in creating and modifying required AI algorithms and techniques. The course considers real world problems that need to be solved with applications of AI and how to build such applications, such as the techniques to create challenging non player characters (NPC) in games development or password strength classification and intrusion detection in network security.

• The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Applied Computing includes a heavy focus on ML and AI with multiple courses and project opportunities.
• Students develop the skills required to evaluate, design, develop and improve Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms through hands-on projects and problem solving, and develop a portfolio of Al projects.​
• Grads are expert in the underpinnings of leading-edge AI and are positioned to apply predictive model solutions to industry problems.

• Applied Data Analytics Certificate (ADAC) students in Computing Flexible Learning learn the principles of advanced statistics behind Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) for Data Analytics.

• AI literacy is incorporated throughout the Technology Professional Program as a tool that can augment tech support work.
• Students learn to use AI to help with planning, documentation, time management, critical thinking, troubleshooting and problem-solving as they prepare for an IT career.
