BCIT is innovative in years of experience of combining trades technical training with a diploma program. Students proceed through their ITA training levels at BCIT, gain work based training hours through mandatory Co-op work terms, and receive a Diploma after completing the program. The Co-op office works closely with participants to help them secure a work placement and acts at the sponsor for the hours worked during Co-op. Employers benefit from testing out a student in their workplace before committing to sponsor them as an apprentice.
