Some BCIT programs offer optional Language Support classes to help students succeed in the communication demands of their courses and future workplaces. These classes provide targeted support to strengthen writing, speaking, and professional communication skills, and are taught by Communications instructors with specialized expertise in English as an Additional Language (EAL). Instructors help students work through written assignments, presentations, and other communication-intensive tasks so they can communicate their ideas clearly and confidently.
While especially valuable for students for whom English is an additional language, these classes are open to all students in the programs listed below who want to improve their communication skills. No registration is required, and students may attend as needed.
If you do not see your program offering a COMM course or a Language Support class, please talk to your Program Head and submit a request, or send it to LST@bcit.ca. You can also use other English services available to all students.
“I did a lot of research before I came to Canada and chose BCIT partly because of Language Support. I know that English is not my first language, and I still need to learn more. I think Language Support is a really good class.”
