English Equivalencies - Category A

Category A applicants are generally those who have completed two years of full-time high school or post-secondary education in an English-speaking country. Category A applicants are required to meet the reading and writing requirement level for their program.

Category B applicants should review BCIT's English Equivalencies - Category B.

Be sure to check your program entrance requirements for the level of English required (e.g. English 12 C+).

These options meet the English requirements for reading and writing language skills only.

1: Take a course at BCIT to upgrade your skill level

*Students who wish to take one of these upgrading courses must first meet the course prerequisite.

2: Take a course at another institute

Post-secondary English Composition or Applied Communication course(s) taken at other institutes may also qualify as an equivalent. Applicants can use the BCIT online Transfer Credit Guide to look up courses, or may contact Program Advising to determine whether a completed course will be an acceptable equivalent.


3: Take a test to verify your competency

1) BCIT English Reading and Writing Competency Assessment Test

Students who wish to take a test to meet a program's English requirements should register for COMM 0015.
