You can meet BCIT's English 11/12 requirements for reading and writing through one of three options.
These options also fulfill the English language proficiency requirements for Category A applicants.
Category A applicants are generally those who have completed two years of high school or post-secondary education in an English-speaking country.
In addition to the three options below, Category A applicants can also meet the English entrance requirements through any of the Category B options.
At BCIT, entrance requirements are program specific. Check your program entrance requirements for the level of English required.
There are three BCIT courses that can be used to meet English 11/12 equivalency requirements:

*Any COMM course level 1100 or higher is acceptable.
Students who wish to take one of these BCIT courses must first register for the placement test (COMM 0009).

Post-secondary English Composition or Applied Communication course(s) taken at other institutes may also qualify as an equivalent. Applicants can use the BCIT online Transfer Credit Guide to look up courses, or may contact Program Advising to determine whether a completed course will be an acceptable equivalent.
Results from any one of three assessment tests can be used to verify your English competency.
Students who wish to take a test to meet a program's English requirements should register for COMM 0015. This computer-based assessment is designed to help determine if an individual's reading and writing skills are at a level necessary to meet the entrance requirements of BCIT full-time programs or communication courses. The assessment tests and individual's skill in reading comprehension, grammar, and written composition.
