Course details

An upgrading course for students who have not completed Math 11 or who have not recently completed Principles of Math 11 or Pre-Calculus 11. Meets the Math 11 prerequisite for the BCIT Technology Entry Program or any BCIT program with a Grade 11 Math entry requirement. Course start dates are January, April and September. School of Business students should review OPMT 0199 to meet their math requirements.

  3. *** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ CAREFULLY AND READ IN FULL *** This course is for students who intend to enter into a BCIT Program and it is not transferable to other institutions. COURSE FORMAT IS SYNCHRONOUS ONLINE LECTURES AND HAS TWO MANDATORY IN-PERSON EXAMS: 1. Midterm: Tuesday, May 7th at 6:00pm 2. Final: Tuesday, June 18th at 6:00pm The TUITION portion of this course is free for Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents. Please note: ANCILLARY fees such as Student Association fees, BCIT Student ID Card fees, etc. WILL BE CHARGED to ALL students and MUST BE PAID by ALL students within 2 business days of registration. **THIS PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO SECURE A SEAT IN THE COURSE.** You will be dropped from the course if ancillary fees are not paid within the deadline. Please be sure to ask the Registrar's office of payment options and deadlines. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis. Once full there will be NO exceptions and there is NO waitlist. Learning Outcomes

The Student is expected to be able to:

  • Perform arithmetic operations using rules of operation with and without a calculator.
  • Multiply, divide, add and subtract arithmetic fractions.
  • Solve percent problems.
  • Convert and reduce units.
  • Discriminate between the accuracy and precision of numbers.
  • Operate with signed numbers.
  • Evaluate and manipulate simple formulae.
  • Solve simple linear and simultaneous linear equations.
  • Graph straight-line equations.
  • Apply elementary mensuration formulae to solve geometric problems.
  • Set-up and solve elementary word problems.
  • Solve right-triangle problems using Pythagoras' Theorem and Trigonometric Ratios.
