If you have completed a BCIT Accounting, Finance, or Financial Planning diploma, you can earn your Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) at BCIT. This degree will provide you with an academic credential leading to a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation, a MPAcc (Master of Professional Accounting), or an MBA program.

Students completing this program will acquire the key technical, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills demanded by employers.

The Bachelor of Accounting consists of eight Advanced Technical Specialty courses and 36 credits of General Education. Full-time students also have the option to complete a Workplace Education component.

The BCIT model: fast, flexible and effective

BCIT's Bachelor of Accounting is offered as:

  1. Flexible Part-Time Studies: The flexible part-time program allows you to maintain your career and study at the same time. You can register course by course, and apply for admission to the program any time.

  2. Or

  3. Full-Time Day Stream: This program is offered on a full-time basis for those students who want to accelerate their completion of the program. The program starts every September and January.

International Exchange

The BAcc offers a number of international exchange opportunities that allow students to gain a global perspective of the economy, culture, government, and everyday life of the country they study in. Application processing

Full-time: this program is open to applications:

  • January 2nd* to March 31st* for the Fall (September) intake
  • June 1st* to November 15th* for the Winter (January) intake

  • *or next business day

Part-time: applications are accepted throughout the year.

Entrance requirements

Full-time: Competitive Entry

This program has a two-step admission process. Applicants must meet all entrance requirements to be considered. All applications will be reviewed by the program area at the application deadline. Admission is competitive and will be offered to the most qualified applicants.

Preference will be given to applicants who are current full-time students in the BCIT Diploma in Accounting, Finance or Financial Planning programs. A limited amount of space may be allocated to other applicants. Applicants who meet all entrance requirements and are not selected for the full-time stream will be offered admission to the part-time stream.

Applicants who are currently enrolled in the fourth term of the BCIT Diploma in Accounting, Finance or Financial Planning must be on track to complete all entrance requirements prior to the start of the intake that they are applying for. Currently enrolled full-time BCIT diploma students applying for the full-time degree may be conditionally accepted based on successful completion of their diploma.

Part-time:

This program has a two-step admission process. Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first qualified basis.

Step 1 for all applicants: Pre-entry assessment by the department

Applicants are required to complete a pre-entry assessment form to have their education assessed by the program area:

  • Complete Part A and B of the Pre-Entry Assessment form [PDF]
  • Save the form as a PDF document and email it as an attachment to bachelor_accounting@bcit.ca
  • A program representative will contact you with instructions regarding next steps. In some cases, you may be asked to attend a program information session or to meet with the program head. You may be required to complete a bridging program or upgrade your marks in specific prerequisite courses before you can apply.

You can apply once you have a completed pre-entry assessment form signed by the program head and have completed any necessary bridging or upgrading courses. The completed pre-entry assessment form must be uploaded to your application to be considered for entry.

Step 2 for all applicants: Meet the following entrance requirements

  • English: two years of education in English in an English-speaking country with one of the following:
  • Post secondary education: A BCIT Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Financial Planning, or an equivalent diploma from another institution* with a minimum GPA of 70% and a minimum average of 65%** in the following second year subject sequences:

    *BCIT will assess diplomas from other institutions for equivalency on an individual basis. Bridging courses may be required.

    **Applicants with an average between 62% and 65% in no more than two second year subject sequences will be considered to have met this entrance requirement.

    ***Graduates of the BCIT Finance or Financial Planning diploma programs are not required to complete FMGT 3310 and 4310 as prerequisites for the Bachelor of Accounting.

Applicants who have completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand will require a comprehensive evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). Credential evaluation reports from other Canadian services may be considered. These reports must include course-by-course evaluations and GPA calculations.

All students are required to have access to computer equipment with the capacity to perform the research, computing and processing functions required by each of the courses in the program.

All correspondence regarding your application will be posted to your online myCommunication account at my.bcit.ca. We'll send you an e-mail when a new message is posted. It's important to watch for these e-mails or regularly check your account online.

You can expect to receive communication concerning the status of your application within four weeks.

Program Details

Full-time Day program

Admitted students will be offered four specific Advanced Technical Specialty courses each term.

These courses are normally held on Mondays to Fridays, any time between 8:30am and 5:30pm. The students will be responsible for registering and completing the General Education courses on their own.

Program length

Full-time students will complete the Advanced Technical Specialty courses over two semesters: Fall and Winter. The General Education courses can be completed before or after the required Advanced Technical Specialty courses.

The maximum time to complete this program is seven years.

Learning during COVID-19

Online learning

This program will be delivered online for the entire Fall 2020 term. Learn wherever you choose, as there’s no requirement to attend campus or classes in-person throughout the entire Fall term.

While the online classroom looks different, the quality of instruction and the commitment of our faculty and staff remains as strong as ever. We’re dedicated to ensuring that your learning experience is meaningful and productive.

Your schedule

You will be expected to attend online classes and complete group work between the hours of 8:30am – 5:30pm PST, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

Safety on campus

As this program is being delivered online for the Fall term, there’s no requirement for you to come to campus. Please see below for information on accessing instructor support and on the student services offered virtually.

Services and support

Instructors will continue to be available to students remotely, including five dedicated office hours per week. Our Student Services staff continue to offer advice, care, and support as needed to optimize your learning experience. Many services, including Student Health Services, Counselling and Student Development, and Peer Tutoring are offering phone or virtual appointments to BCIT students.
