Course Overview
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of case writing. It builds upon technical skills and knowledge covered in prior accounting courses, focusing on the application of this knowledge in case-writing. Through course activities and using a variety of cases, students will develop their case-writing, critical thinking, decision-making, and research skills. This course is suitable for students interested in pursuing the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and is designed to prepare students for entrance into CPA's Professional Education Program (PEP).

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Apply the fundamentals of case writing to a variety of cases and business situations
- Critically read and analyze case materials to identify, prioritize, and articulate issues that would be important to various users including decision makers
- Develop effective plans and case outlines to organize information and to facilitate the case writing process
- Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses for business situations, integrating technical skills and knowledge from prior courses
- Research and apply standards and regulations from the CPA Canada Accounting, Assurance, and Taxation Collections to various business situations
- Integrate information including the results of quantitative and qualitative analyses to evaluate alternative solutions and to provide recommendations and conclusions
- Debrief case responses and reflect upon feedback to identify areas for improvement and to deepen learning
- Prepare written responses and quantitative analyses that facilitate effective communication, adapting communications to meet users' needs
