Contractors will be starting work to decommission the OASIS site on Monday June 23.

Throughout this time a work perimeter will be set up around OASIS to allow demolition to occur (marked green on the attached map). This will mean that all parking spaces in this area (c 40) will be unavailable.

• There will be alternative lanes set up for drivers using Lot 7 that avoid the closure (marked red and blue on the map).
• Signage will be installed at the entrances to the Lot to guide drivers. If you want to find alternative parking close to the area, please refer to our interactive parking map: bcit.ca/parking
• Access to surrounding buildings will be unaffected.
• Work is expected to completed in the first week of August.

Site Plan

Work will be taking place (August 14-31) to construct a temporary access road from Ford Street to Lot D. This new access road will support the upcoming construction of the Campus Services Centre which will require the closure of Lot F.

Construction Impacts

• A section of Ford Street will be closed during the project.
• Traffic to and from Roper Avenue will be diverted through Lot 7, as in the attached plan
• 20 parking stalls in Lot D will unavailable during the construction.

Update November 5

From Wednesday November 6, we will be completely closing the southern access gate between 3.30pm – 7.00am (Monday to Friday).

Unfortunately, the partial closure introduced in late October has not fully prevented drivers using the area as a cut through. This closure will further discourage drivers using the entrance, while minimizing the impacts on staff and students.

At other times only the northbound lane of the southern access gate to Aerospace Campus will be shut (see further information below).

We are working to engineer a permanent solution.

Starting on October 22, we will be blocking the northbound lane of the southern access gate to Aerospace Campus. In recent weeks drivers have been using this entrance as a cut through to avoid traffic on Russ Baker Way (which runs parallel). Drivers have been travelling through our parking lots at excessive speed. This presents a clear risk to pedestrians who want to enter the Campus from the parking lot or drop off zones.

To ensure the safety of our campus community we will be blocking the northbound lane by closing the swing gate (maintaining access for emergency vehicles). Southbound traffic entering the student lot will be maintained. There will be traffic barriers placed to prevent drivers using this route as a cut through, so we ask drivers to exercise care.
