Temporary changes to private medical insurance procedures for ISEP students

There have been some changes to the private medical insurance enrolments for new ISEP Students because:

  1. Travel restrictions may make it impossible for many new international students to travel to Canada this summer or fall.
  2. We want to make sure that international students have medical insurance when they actually are able to travel to Canada.

If you are a new ISEP student admitted and are already in Canada, or are sure that you are able to enter Canada and have firm travel plans (such as having booked a flight to Canada), then you MUST notify us so that we can plan your enrolment.

Please send an email to with the following information:

  1. Your name
  2. Your BCIT student number
  3. Your planned date of arrival in Canada and a copy of your flight ticket (or just confirm that you are already in Canada)

International Student Entry Program (ISEP) students are automatically charged a non-refundable $180 fee as part of their first term tuition. This fee covers 90 days of private medical insurance coverage.

Once you have confirmed your plans, your card and policy details will be emailed to your email address.

We highly recommend that you arrange for additional temporary private medical insurance to cover you for any time that you will spend in Canada before starting your enrolment.

If you already have BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) or medical insurance coverage from a private insurance provider, you may be able to opt out of insurance coverage. See Opt Out for more information.
