Please check’s FAQ and COVID-19 Update for details regarding medical insurance coverage for international students in Canada.

International students must have private basic medical insurance coverage for any period of time that they will study at BCIT while they are not covered by BC Medical Services Plan (MSP).

This includes:

  • Any students who have recently arrived in BC during their MSP coverage wait period
  • Exchange and study abroad students staying for a single term (who are not eligible for MSP) International Insurance

BCIT’s preferred private basic medical insurance provider for international students is International Insurance – one of the world’s largest insurance providers in international education.

Students starting a full-time program, ISEP, or on an incoming exchange or study abroad program at BCIT will be charged and enrolled in coverage automatically (unless you opt out).

Students in part-time programs may purchase medical insurance through the online portal for BCIT students.
