Business Management

The BCIT Advanced Diploma in Business Management is designed to equip students with fundamental business knowledge to complement expertise and education in other disciplines. This program will introduce students to foundational business functions including: accounting, economics, marketing, human resource management, and operations. Graduates are prepared to lead and contribute to a broad range of core business areas, as well as leverage prior knowledge and expertise to launch into entrepreneurial pursuits. The breadth of course topics, applied nature of our programming, and the focus on teamwork prepares graduates to thrive in today’s global business environment.

About the program

  • One-year Advanced Diploma program
  • Explore foundations of business through intense exploration and practice in cohort-based classes with a maximum of 25 students/lab
  • Practice personal and team leadership, time and project management

Who should apply for the Business Management Advanced Diploma?

  • You are a graduate of a diploma or degree program
  • You are keen to leverage your education and work experience to advance your career opportunities in leadership, management, or to become an entrepreneur
  • You are seeking advanced placement based on service in the Canadian Forces (regular or reservist) or as a First Responder (fire fighter, paramedic or police)
  • You are a mature student with a diverse education and work history seeking to combine your knowledge and expertise to pursue career advancement in management and leadership opportunities
  • You have a Certificate of Qualification or an Interprovincial Red Seal

Application processing

Full-time: this program is open to applications beginning:

  • March 15th* for the January intake
  • October 1st* for the September intake
*or next business day

Part-time: applications are accepted throughout the year.

Entrance requirements

Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first qualified basis as long as space remains.

Applicants who have completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand will require a basic evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). A comprehensive report may be required under certain circumstances. If you wish to clarify which report is required, please contact advdip@bcit.ca. Credential evaluation reports from other Canadian services may be considered.

Submit your detailed resume, training documents, past college or university transcripts, and other certificates to appl@bcit.ca to have an eligibility assessment completed.

myCommunication

Within two business days of submitting your completed application, BCIT will send a message to your personal and myBCIT e-mail addresses. All correspondence regarding your application will be posted to your online myCommunication account at my.bcit.ca. We'll send you an e-mail when a new message is posted. It's important to watch for these e-mails or regularly check your account online.

You can expect to receive communication concerning the status of your application within four weeks.

Program Details

By offering the key, basic skills in business, this program helps students of non-business backgrounds gain the knowledge they need to succeed in further business studies and careers.

Program length

The maximum time to complete the program is seven years.

Full-time:

  • The September intake runs from September to April.
  • The January intake runs from January to August.

Part-time: Students typically complete the program between three to five years. Courses are offered three times a year to coincide with the Part-time Studies terms:

  • Winter Term: January - April
  • Spring Term: April - June/July
  • Fall Term: September - December

Continue your education

Degree Completion

Graduates of this program may continue their studies to complete the BCIT Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. The BBA program provides you with the flexibility to complete your degree full-time within 8 to 12 months (depending on previous transfer credits from other institutes), or you can choose to begin your career and finish your degree courses part-time, usually within 2 to 3 years.

This program is specifically designed to give you the essential skills for careers and further study in business, even if your diploma, degree, or other training is in a different field.

Additionally, as a graduate of the program, you’ll have the opportunity to continue to improve your skills, earning potential, and available jobs by pursuing your bachelor degree. You might choose to continue with your studies full-time to earn your Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in only about a year. Or, you might choose to begin working while taking advantage of the flexible schedule to earn your bachelor degree part-time in 2 to 3 years.

Graduate employment outcomes

The BCIT student outcomes reports present summary findings from the annual survey of former students administered by BC Stats one to two years after graduation. These reports combine the last three years of available results for the 2017-2019 BCIT Outcomes Surveys of 2016-2018 graduates and for Degree 2014-2016 graduates. The reports are organized into three-page summaries containing information on graduates' labour market experiences and opinions regarding their education. More detailed information can be accessed at the BC Student Outcomes website.

Apply for graduation

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit it to Student Information and Enrolment Services.

Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.

All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
