Making for a smoother entry to post-secondary

In this course you will review and gather information to prepare you for leaving highschool and moving into college or university. The course contains information using a variety of resources (guided discussion questions and activities, case studies, self-reflection activities and videos) which are designed to  help you understand what to expect in post-secondary education and your role in taking action to help you succeed.

Audience

This course was developed for students in grades 11-12, and students out of high school for a few years. It will also benefit their supports ( teachers, parents, audiologists etc. ) who are working with them on transition planning.

Delivery details

The course is broken up into eight modules. Although it is recommended that you follow the lessons in consecutive order to maximize the learning, it is not a requirement. Throughout the course, you may choose to complete each section as an independent study or together with additional learning provided though your high school or other organization that is helping you with your preparations.

The course is also designed to provide multiple ways of delivery. It can be accessed as:

  1. Online self-guided:  following the Online Instructions
  2. Face-to-face facilitated: following support of a guiding teacher or support professional
  3. Combination of face-to-face & online: following one or both of the two options for different lessons

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Implement effective self-awareness and advocacy skills.
  • Apply strategies to confidently manage your responsibilities.
  • Execute individual goals for post-secondary success.
  • Develop a transition timeline.

Time commitment

Depending on the approach taken to work though this content, the completion could range anywhere from 6 to 12 hours, based on the amount of guidance and support with additional activities, review and engagement that may be facilitated by teachers or support professionals.
