Work Life Balance
BCIT employees enjoy a workweek of 35 hours or less. We may support numerous alternative work options, which may include telecommuting and compressed workweeks.
The minimum annual paid vacation allotment for employees is three weeks, and all faculty members are entitled to up to nine weeks’ paid vacation every year.

Each year we celebrate our employees’ achievements, recognizing the remarkable efforts of our employees in areas such as teaching, research, and leadership at the BCIT Employee Excellence Awards. We recently added the Wellbeing Champion Award to recognize employees whose actions helped promote positive mental health, reduce stigma, ease distress, and foster interpersonal connections.
Long Service Awards
The Long Service Awards program has been designed to recognize and honour employees celebrating service milestones of 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service. In addition to being honoured at the department level with a certificate, eligible employees are invited to attend a celebratory dinner and receive a plaque.
Other benefits include a defined benefit pension plan, and maternity and parental leave top-ups. We also offer licensed childcare facilities at our main campus in Burnaby.
