Students may sometimes need flexibility or adjustments to support their participation in their education. BCIT provides processes for accommodation requests related to personal characteristics protected under the BC Human Rights Code, as well as guidance for other circumstances that may affect a student’s ability to meet their academic obligations. This page explains the different types of accommodation requests, how to make a request, and where students and instructors can go for support.

What is accommodation?
Under the BC Human Rights Code, BCIT is required to provide reasonable accommodation for student needs related to protected personal characteristics, unless doing so would cause undue hardship. Accommodation may require adjusting a rule, policy, practice, or requirement to prevent discrimination and support equitable access to education.
