Overview
Delivery Mode: ONLINE
- This program will be delivered online during COVID-19.
- Your education is our priority and we will continue to deliver the applied instruction, collaborative experience, and industry connections that you expect from BCIT.
Please be aware that these courses fill quickly. As a result, students may not be able to successfully register in courses they need or want. This may impact both the number of courses a student is able to take in a given term as well as the time it takes to complete the credential. Students who require a minimum course load to retain eligibility for financial aid or international student status are strongly advised to exercise caution when enrolling in this program as there is no guarantee that the minimum required course credits can be sustained from term to term.
The Program
The Certificate program in the Interior Design department is designed as a foundation year for all of the Interior Design programs. The Certificate focuses on the basics of residential design encompassing design theory, concept development, space planning, lighting, colour, history, materials & fabrics, sustainability, written communication skills, and visual communication through both freehand and computer generated drawings.
Upon completion of the Certificate in Interior Design Fundamentals, students wishing to proceed to the Diploma in Interior Design and Bachelor of Interior Design must complete TRPT 0011 – English, ENGL 1177 – Academic Writing, and 3.0 credits of General Education electives prior to admission into the Diploma program.
Students wishing to proceed to the Associate Certificate in Kitchen and Bath Design can do so directly after completion of the certificate, but must complete TRPT 0011 – English before continuing into the Diploma in Residential Interiors.

Graduate employment outcomes
The BCIT student outcomes report presents summary findings from the annual survey of former students administered by BC Stats one to two years after graduation. These reports combine the last three years of available results for the 2018-2020 BCIT Outcomes Surveys of 2017-2019 graduates and for Degree 2015-2017 graduates. The reports are organized into three-page summaries containing information on graduates’ labour market experiences and opinions regarding their education. More detailed information can be accessed at the BC Student Outcomes website.
To view these results, you may need to have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in your Web browser.
