Course details

This course will introduce students to the process and requirements needed to create construction drawings for a residential project, including plans, elevations, legends, schedules and drawing references. Students will first design and develop freehand drawings to scale and will create a set of construction drawings using AutoCAD, based on their design solutions.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify various types of construction drawings for residential interior design.
  • Produce construction plans with dimensions, specifications, legends and schedules.
  • Design and dimension a reflected ceiling plan that includes variations in ceiling heights, materials and lighting.
  • Produce a lighting schedule with generic specifications.
  • Produce building sections showing stairs with appropriate annotation.
  • Create attributed title blocks.
  • Incorporate attributed blocks for sections, elevations, doors and finish symbols.
  • Apply external referencing to create detailed areas in plans and elevations.
  • Produce power and communication plan with a legend.
  • Recognise appropriate power and communication requirements to comply with building codes.
  • Produce finish plans and elevations with schedules, legends, and appropriate specifications.
  • Apply appropriate line weights, scale, dimensions and text standards.
  • Prepare a set of residential construction drawings with referencing.
