This course will cover fibres and fabrics as they apply to residential interior design. Characteristics of natural and synthetic fibres will be explored. Through lectures, field trips, and assignments, topics such as fibre and/or fabric identification, properties, construction, application, specifications, testing, estimating, and sustainability will be covered.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the differences between fibre, yarn, leather and fabric.
- Prepare a basic specification for a fabric application.
- Identify the properties of natural and synthetic fibres.
- Recognize the differences between various fabric construction and dyeing methods.
- Identify the ecological footprint pertaining to fibres and fabrics.
- Determine appropriate fabric selection for specific functional consideration and usage such as window treatment, upholstery and bedding.
- Estimate fabric quantities for budgeting purposes.
