Here you’ll find important information on how to access BCIT student support and other administrative services.
Finding support services
BCIT provides a wealth of resources to support your learning and personal wellbeing.
Accessibility Services is available to all BCIT students who require accommodation in their learning because of a disability or other health issue.

The BCIT ID card allows you to access many services at BCIT, including:
- Library Services
- U-Pass / Compass Card
- Audio/visual services (student equipment bookings)
- Recreation and Athletics in the Student Activity Centre
- Printing and copying
- On-campus and off-campus discounts

Register on eJOBS to access full-time, part-time, and temporary job opportunities from over 4,000 companies.
BCIT Library privileges are available to all Flexible Learning students for the duration of their courses. You can borrow materials using your BCIT ID card, access online articles and books, and use the study space. The Learning Commons offers free peer tutoring, conversation groups, seminars and writing support. Visit the BCIT Library for more information.
A personal myBCIT account has been created for you, which includes your own email address @my.bcit.ca. Your instructor(s) will use this portal to communicate with you and your classmates (unless otherwise indicated). All official communications from BCIT administrative offices will also be sent to your myBCIT email address.
You now have access to the various self-services available through your myBCIT student portal, such as:
- Printing your course fee receipt
- Printing your T2202A tax receipt (available on the last day of February for the previous tax year)
- Accessing your myBCIT email
- Updating your personal information
- Accessing online courses (if applicable)
- Viewing registration information and course schedule
- Viewing assignment marks and final grades
- Printing an unofficial transcript
- Requesting an official transcript
- Receiving administrative information from Admissions, Registration and other BCIT offices (via myBCIT email)
- Viewing campus bulletins and other important information
Go to myBCIT to access your account. Login using your BCIT ID and initial password (your birth date: YYMMDD). The system will inform you that you must login using your myBCIT email address, and will provide you with this information. Then use your myBCIT email address to login and access services.

At BCIT, we want to make sure that you have the opportunity to succeed, both personally and academically, and we don’t expect you to do it alone. BCIT has a wealth of resources that are available to help you thrive. The Student Success Hub is a central resource for all BCIT students, designed to make the many sources of information and support easier to find and navigate. Students can access the Student Success Hub prior to starting classes at BCIT and can refer back to the course as a resource throughout their entire time as a BCIT student.

It’s graduation time…
But there’s some stuff you need to know: Graduations are not automatic – you have to apply to receive your credential and attend the Graduation Ceremony. And the application should be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to the convocation date you plan to attend.
Here’s why:
Someone needs to audit (review) the courses you’ve completed to ensure that you’ve met all the program requirements. So, when you submit an application for graduation, you are one of many hundreds of students who also applying for their credential.

Please complete the application for a credential which can be found at https://www.bcit.ca/files/records/pdf/appl_4_credential.pdf and return to BCIT by following the information on the form.
Course cancelations
When BCIT cancels a course, students may want to apply their fees to another course section or different course, the full fees paid will be applied to the new course registration and there will be no charge for the transfer. Students will be responsible for paying any difference owing.
Course withdrawals
All Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) course withdrawal requests must be submitted using the official Flexible Learning Course Withdrawal form [PDF].
If you are submitting your completed form by email, please send it to PTSwithdrawals@bcit.ca. You must use your myBCIT email address so that the Registrar’s Office can verify the legitimacy of your request. Incomplete forms or forms submitted using a non-myBCIT email address cannot be processed. Withdrawals will be processed within 2-3 business days. Log in to myBCIT and check under Student Self Service to confirm withdrawals and account balance (if any).
Even if you have missed the refund or withdrawal deadline, it is very important to notify BCIT of your intent to withdraw. Late withdrawals are subject to program area approval, and will not be considered without applicable documentation. Remember to formally withdraw to ensure your permanent academic record, your GPA, and your ability to qualify for future awards and recognition are not affected.
Refunds
If students are eligible for a fee refund, they must now make a request.

Refund request
If you are eligible for a tuition refund, you must fill out the refund request form. Your refund request will be assessed in accordance to BCIT refund and withdrawal policies and issued accordingly. In order for your request to be eligible for a refund, you must submit your request within two calendar years of the start date of the course(s). If BCIT received your payment by Flywire, your eligible refund will be made through Flywire. All other payment forms will be refunded by cheque.
Refunds take approximately six weeks to process, plus mailing time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
To assist in a timely processing of your refunds, please ensure your mailing address is up to date and includes the Unit/Suite #, if applicable. For any cheque not received due to outdated or inaccurate address, it may take up to eight weeks for the new cheque to be issued and mailed.
Campus amenities & resources
Find your classroom and a bite to eat. Connect with other students at Kick Start, or join a club through the Student Association.
Kick Start is BCIT’s orientation programming, designed to help all new and returning students settle in to the start of their new term. We encourage you to attend your program orientation, take a campus tour, and learn about your new community and the various resources that you can tap into during your time at BCIT.
The BCIT Student Association (BCITSA) enhances student life for both part- and full-time students by offering a wide range of services, programs, events and student spaces on all five campuses. There are many ways that the SA helps you to get involved with your community and gain valuable experience to use throughout your career. You can access Career Services, contribute to the monthly student Link Magazine, or take part in one of the several programs provided by their Services department. Classroom locations are subject to last minute changes. Please check the Classroom Locations listing on the first day of any course you are registered for.
DineOnCampus is the hub for information about campus food services. You’ll find a wide range of information available from menus to hours of operation and contact information.
Find BCIT parking information including rates, parking permit options and lot locations. Be sure to arrive early on the first night of your class.
BCIT has a safety app that you’ll want to download. Safety Wise has a lot of useful features, such as push notifications in the event of a campus emergency. You can use it to call for help, report a concern, or just find your way around campus. So, download the app! You can also learn more about safety on campus by visiting Safety, Security, and Emergency Management.
The BCIT Bookstore will have the course materials that you’ll need for your course approximately four to six weeks before it starts. You can either purchase your course materials in-person or order online from the Bookstore website.
Distance and online students can order their course texts and materials from the Bookstore’s Distance and Online website.
Course manuals, materials and textbooks are not usually included in tuition fees.

Online learner support
Set yourself up for success in a new course by familiarizing yourself with the course structure, outline, and schedule.
In your first week:
- Check your myBCIT email account for a welcome email with important information, including your instructor’s name and contact information.
- You also have your program assistant [PDF]. Contact them if you have difficulty contacting your instructor.
- Login to the Learning Hub and read the course outline (available beginning on the first day of your class).
- Look for the course schedule (usually posted in the calendar or in the course outline). Note assignment due dates and exams.
- Find out how your instructor will evaluate you. Are there tests to complete? What kind of participation is expected? Is participation graded and, if so, how?
- Quickly scan your text, manual, or any reading materials. Are there questions or quizzes at the end of each chapter? How could these help you when you start studying for a test or exam?
- Complete all orientation activities. These are designed to help you familiarize yourself with the technology and get to know others in the class.
- Read any other documents or instructions shared with you.
The Learning Hub (D2L) is BCIT’s online learning environment. You’ll use it throughout your course to interact with your instructor, receive and submit assignments, engage in discussion, and more. If you experience technical difficulties, contact techhelp@bcit.ca or visit Educational Technology Support.
Students are expected to complete and submit all assignments and write all exams within the specified course duration. In accordance with the student evaluation policy, assignments not submitted will receive a mark of zero.
Consult your marker, instructor, Program Assistant [PDF], or Program Head (as appropriate) with questions related to assignment schedules for your particular course.
You can check your grades or view your transcript online using myBCIT:
- Login to your myBCIT.
- Under Student Self-Services in the right-hand menu, select Check Grades.
- You can view assignments/quizzes, final grades, your unofficial transcript, and any administrative holds on your account.
Studying at BCIT’s Downtown Campus
Read on for tips and information specific to our downtown campus.
The Downtown Campus has its own bookstore. Avoid start-of-term lineups by purchasing textbooks in advance. For more information visit the Downtown Campus Bookstore.
Student Registration is on the second floor. Pictures taken at the Downtown Campus (DTC) will require up to five business days for processing and delivery. Use the online photo submission process to reduce processing time to approximately two business days by selecting the DTC campus as the pick-up location.
