Urgent Short‑Stay Housing provides safe, temporary, short‑term accommodations for BCIT students who are experiencing an immediate housing crisis.

Students may be considered for Urgent Short‑Stay Housing if they are facing:

  • Unsafe or uninhabitable housing conditions.
  • Domestic or intimate partner violence.
  • Imminent homelessness with no safe alternative housing options.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be actively enrolled at BCIT during their stay.
  • Have no other safe or appropriate housing options available, including regular student housing.
  • Be able to stay in single‑occupancy housing. Dependents and pets cannot be accommodated.
  • Have no prior eviction from Student Housing and no serious non‑academic conduct or housing community standard violations that would place others at risk.
  • Have a clear, time‑limited need for urgent housing support.

Length of stay

Urgent Short‑Stay Housing is intended for stays up to 14 calendar days.

How to be referred

Students can be referred to Urgent Short‑Stay Housing in two ways:

Referral through a BCIT support service

Referrals may be made by BCIT campus partners who support students in urgent or complex situations. This includes teams such as:

Self‑Referral

Students are also able to submit a referral for themselves if they are experiencing an urgent housing need by emailing housing@bcit.ca.
