Overview
Please note: the Motorcycle Technician Foundation certificate program is currently undergoing a program review that may lead to curriculum changes starting in Fall 2025.
This 20-week harmonized Foundation training program is designed to provide the student with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enter the trade. This includes core skills such as safety, tools and equipment, and employability. It also provides the students with hands-on training to perform service operations such as new unit assembly and service; repair electrical components; and to service chassis, wheels, suspensions, final drives, and accessories.
Upon successful completion of BCIT’s harmonized Motorcycle Technician Foundation program, students receive credit for the first level of technical training required in the provincial Apprenticeship program plus 300 work based hours.
Students also have an option to receive an endorsement from the Yamaha’s Technical Academy (YTA). The Yamaha endorsement course available through BCIT is known as the YTA Bronze level. To successfully complete the Bronze course, the student must pass an exam that covers the engine, drive-train and chassis systems and service procedures on Yamaha products.
Please visit the SkilledTradesBC website for more details about the program.

The BCIT student outcomes report presents summary findings from the annual survey of former students administered by BC Stats one to two years after graduation. These reports combine the last three years of available results for the 2021-2023 BCIT Outcomes Surveys of 2020-2022 graduates and for Degree 2019-2021 graduates. The reports are organized into three-page summaries containing information on graduates’ labour market experiences and opinions regarding their education. More detailed information can be accessed at the BC Student Outcomes website.
