Trades Entry Assessment

English

The English assessment contains questions about readings that are similar in style to readings in trades training textbooks, manuals, and handouts. Diagrams, charts, tables, and short and long reading passages are presented. No prior knowledge of the content is assumed or required.

  • Multiple-choice format
  • Time limit
  • Only one re-write may be attempted per term
  • Passing score varies by program

To write the English assessment, please follow these three steps:

  1. Registration
  2. Payment
  3. Booking an appointment to write the assessment.

Registration

If you need to write the English assessment as part of your entrance requirements, please register for it via the English assessment course page.

Payment

Each assessment has a $40.00 fee (subject to change without notice). These fees, which are tuition, must be paid at least 3 business days prior to writing your assessment(s). Assessment fees are non-refundable. You may pay for your assessment fees through online banking or Flywire. For more information on payment options, please visit BCIT’s Payment Options webpage.

Booking an appointment to write the assessment

Trades Entry Assessments are written all over the world. There are three options for writing an assessment: BCIT Burnaby Campus, external invigilation or ProctorU (online invigilation).

BCIT Burnaby Campus

You may write the assessment(s) at the Trades Learning Centre. You must book an appointment to write the assessment(s) via our Assessment Session Booking webpage. There is no additional fee for booking an assessment session at the Trades Learning Centre.

External invigilation

You may write the assessment(s) at an accredited institute, university, college, embassy or consulate. You must complete a Request for External Invigilation form. If you have any questions regarding how to locate an approved invigilator in your area, please contact trades_assessment@bcit.ca for assistance. Additional fees may apply.

ProctorU (online invigilation)

You may write the assessment(s) online using ProctorU’s virtual invigilation services. Please click on the ProctorU Link to learn more about this option. Additional fees may apply.
