To support you and your education, BCIT is adapting applied learning in formats appropriate to the unfolding global situation. All PTS classes are being delivered in an online format unless you are notified otherwise.
There is a community and an audience online for just about every story, idea, and concept. The problem is that many people don't know how to create their ideas online, and to build and engage a community around those ideas. That is what you will begin to build in this course – a storyworld around your digital media endeavours (whether for personal branding, business or a project). This will include utilizing WordPress to build a professional website, optimizing SEO to that website and an associated youtube channel, niche audience building, creation of and participation in a digital storytelling campaign, measuring social metrics, crowdfunding, crafting appealing email newsletters, and developing a long term strategy for continued community engagement.
*Registration is permitted after the course start date up to January 18th by calling 604-434-1610. *Please note that the lecture component for this course is asynchronous, not requiring you to meet online at a specific time, however there will be specific timelines for assignments and exams. It is important to have a stable and consistent internet connection to access course content. Course content, type and quality of assignments, and general standards for this online course are the same as classroom courses. To be successful in this online course, plan to spend 7-10 hours per week on your studies, starting Week 1. *Students will be required to purchase a URL and web hosting for the project they are building in the course, at an approximate cost of $60. DO NOT purchase this until after the first session, during which the instructor will explain the exact requirements. *With special permission from the Program Assistant to register, this course can be taken concurrently with one of the Tuesday evening “Virtual Classroom” courses offered in the 2021 Winter term.
