Course Overview
In today's age of social media platforms and the need to rapidly develop online content, video editing skills are beneficial to many professions and applications. This course introduces students to the artistic and technical platform of video editing using Adobe Premiere, beginning with an overview of the software interface, basic editing tools, and roles of a video editor. Along with learning how to use the software, students will become familiar with editing styles and postproduction workflow through provided handouts and assignments. Upon completion of this course, students will have the basic skillset to build successful and presentable sequences with provided video clips and export them as compressed video files for upload to various online media.
Prerequisite(s)
- Students enrolled in the cohort model must achieve a minimum grade of 50% in BCST 1107 to take this course and progress to subsequent term courses with this as a prerequisite.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Define roles of a video editor.
- Successfully navigate the Adobe Premiere interface.
- Organize desktop media.
- Explain efficient post-production work flow.
- Demonstrate basic sound mixing and sound editing skills.
- Identify correct focal lengths, pacing, and continuity for particular types of editing projects.
- Use basic editing tools.
- Demonstrate basic transitions, effects, and title creations.
- Build successful sequences and scenes.
- Export media in various formats.

This course will be delivered synchronously in person, requiring your attendance and participation in scheduled classes held at Burnaby Campus SE10 building for the duration of the course. Prospective students should have solid written and spoken English language skills to be successful in this course. Access to a desktop or laptop computer to complete course assignments outside class is highly recommended. Those enrolling in this course must demonstrate a keen interest in video editing.
