Course Overview
This hands-on course was designed for students who have strong English communication skills. Only those students who have strong spoken and written business English should register for this course. Participants must be detail oriented, have the utmost accuracy in spelling and strong interpersonal skills to work well with the public. If you meet the above requirements then you could prepare for a challenging career as a Dental Receptionist in as little as 12 weeks. Successful students will gain working knowledge in dental office clinical procedures, billing procedures, and insurance company protocols. Assignments and exercises focus on dental receptionist responsibilities, legal issues, patients rights, accurate spelling of technical dental terms and Fee Guides. Patient charts and records, related accounting, business communication, telephone skills, appointment scheduling and marketing within the dental office are covered. COMP 0885 may be taken simultaneously with COMP 0285 and COMP 0985. A BCIT Statement of Completion is issued upon success in all three of these courses. Some students may also be eligible for continuing dental education credits as per the BC College of Oral Health Professionals. Upon successful completion students acquire the critical skills necessary to manage the day to day front desk procedures performed as a Dental Office Receptionist. Please Note: English 12 with 80% or higher is recommended for this course.
