Course Overview
This hands-on course is designed for students who have strong English communication skills. Participants gain hands-on experience with advanced front desk billing procedures. There is a focus on: all dental fee guides, insurance company rules and regulations, working with dual insurance claim forms, preauthorizations', insurance and patient payment calculations. Exercises include how to effectively troubleshoot insurance payments and how to deal with treatment rejections. COMP 0985 may be taken simultaneously with COMP 0285 and COMP 0885. A BCIT Statement of Completion is issued upon success in all three of these courses. Some students may also be eligible for continuing dental education credits as per the BC College of Oral Health Professionals. Please Note: The utmost attention to detail and accuracy is required; the passing grade of this course is 70%. Upon successful completion students will be familiar with advanced dental office billing procedures.

- Dental office experience, completion of a Dental Receptionist or Dental Assisting program or currently enrolled in COMP 0885.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain dual insurance policies.
- Work with updated Ministry and First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) Program insurance guidelines.
- Accurately calculate patient differences created by insurance policy maximums and limitations.
- Follow the most current dental insurance company's protocol and rules.
- Perform daily billing and advanced billing tasks in a dental office.

Include your Student number (A0#) and COMP__ and preferred CRN __. ***COMP 0885 MUST be completed first or taken simultaneously with COMP 0285 and COMP 0985. Course is 24 hours on campus. ***CLASS SIZE LIMIT: Once the enrolment limit has been reached (FULL), you will not be able to join this class –no capacity override. This course is offered every term so you will also have the opportunity to take it next term. Please Note: Attendance, participation in class and the BCIT Learning Hub are mandatory. Late registration is not permitted. BCIT Computing is primarily a Microsoft Windows environment. Students must provide their own current model Windows-compatible PC. i5 or higher equivalent processor, with 8 GB of RAM minimum, and 256 GB minimum storage. Highspeed internet access is needed for online sections and for homework. Mac users must have the ability to manage and support their iOS computer. They may need to create a virtual Windows environment using Parallels or VMWare Fusion. COMP instructors may not be able to assist Mac users with software compatibility issues. BCIT does not provide access to Parallels or support for students to use a Mac to run Windows. No class December 1.
