Course details
In an information-based society, every enterprise requires business analytics and decision support systems to enable a competitive advantage. As a result, knowledge workers across all industries increasingly require an understanding of data modelling and advanced data management and analytical techniques. Building off the foundational skills learned in BSYS-1000, this course leverages the Microsoft ecosystem, including Access, Excel and Power Query, Microsoft's data transformation and data preparation engine, to perform complex data management tasks. Advanced formulae, concepts, and data modelling theory will enable students to connect to various types of data to enable the analysis and presentation of data to enable business insight.

The midterm will be on Thursday, May 15th and the final exam will be on Thursday June 26.This course is asynchronous and does not require you to meet every week at a specific time, however, there will be specific timelines for assignments and exams. Course content, type and quality of assignments, and general standards for this online course are the same as classroom courses. To be successful in this online course, plan to spend 7-10 hours per week on your studies, or more of it’s a condensed course, starting Week 1. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Solve financial/business problems using advanced formulae.
- Build a dynamic what-if business model that includes sensitivity analysis.
- Use correct data modelling terminology.
- Explain and illustrate the data modelling process using normalization.
- Analyze business data through single-source and multi-source queries.
- Employ built-in tools in Excel to analyze data using advanced criteria.
- Evaluate large datasets to extrapolate meaningful information to facilitate decision making.
- Present data analytics using pivot tables, charts, and other visualization techniques.
- Collaborate on the analysis and presentation of information using Microsoft 365.
