Welcome to the Business & Media Study Abroad program at BCIT! Study Abroad and enjoy a life-changing experience on Canada’s west coast! In this program, you can study in Vancouver, Canada for one/two terms while taking up to four courses per term.
At the BCIT School of Business + Media you’ll put theory into practice, learn from industry professionals, be part of a vibrant student community and live in one of the best cities in the world. As a Study Abroad student, you can take up to four courses per term from any of our different business and media programs. Choose from more than 300 courses from our 100+ programs at BCIT Business + Media to build a customized curriculum that is tailored specifically to your goals.

Entrance Requirements
The Study Abroad program has three application processing periods each year. Choose from the winter (January), spring/summer (April), or fall ( September) to study at a time that works for you. Please note that the entrance requirements are the same for all three terms.
Application processing
This program is open to applications:
- January intake: August 1st* – October 15th*
- April intake: October 1st* – January 15th*
- September intake: October 1st*– June 15th*
* or next business day
Applications are considered for a specific intake.
Entrance requirements
Applicants must meet all entrance requirements.
- Submit the following with your online application:
- Proof of meeting the English requirement
- Official post-secondary transcripts (translated into English)
- Study Abroad Course Selection [PDF]
- Consent for Authorized Agent Representative [PDF] (optional)
- This form is required if your education consultant is submitting an application on your behalf
- Entry options: one of the following:
Option 1: Study Abroad- English: one of the following:
- DAAD Certificate with Level B2 (for students from Germany), or
- IELTS Academic with 6.5 overall, or
- TOEFL with 86 overall, or
- Demonstrate your proficiency by meeting one of the approved options.
If you do not meet the Option 1 English requirement above, you can apply with the following to be placed in Study Abroad with Language Development. See the Courses page for program details.
- English: one of the following:
- IELTS Academic with 5.5 overall, or
- TOEFL with 70 overall, or
- Demonstrate your proficiency by meeting one of the approved options.

- Convert all transcripts and supporting documents to PDF files.
- Have a credit card ready to pay the application fee.

Scheduled Intakes

myCommunication
Within two business days of submitting your completed application, BCIT will send a message to your personal and myBCIT e-mail addresses. All correspondence regarding your application will be posted to your online myCommunication account at my.bcit.ca. We'll send you an e-mail when a new message is posted. It's important to watch for these e-mails or regularly check your account online.
You can expect to receive communication concerning the status of your application within four weeks.

Costs & Supplies
As every students coming to study in Canada has a unique budget, we’ve put together an approximate monthly cost list of essentials here in Vancouver in 2023:

Tuition fees
The Business & Media Study Abroad program has a non-refundable $154.00 CAD application fee.
Tuition is $6,995.00 CAD per term. This covers registration for four undergraduate level courses or three graduate level courses as well as built in ancillary fees such: BCIT ID card, student association, building and capital levy. Textbooks and course supplies are not included in tuition.
Please note: Tuition will not be reduced if students register for fewer than four courses and Study Abroad students are not eligible for U-Pass (student transit program).
Medical insurance is mandatory while attending BCIT. If you are studying abroad for one term, a $300.00 CAD fee will be added to your Study Abroad tuition to cover your first three months of Guard.Me medical insurance. If you are studying abroad for two terms, you are eligible for MSP. In this case, a $180.00 CAD fee will be added to your Study Abroad tuition. To opt out, you can email proof of medical insurance for the duration of your studies to isc_info@bcit.ca

Courses
As a Study Abroad student you can choose up to four courses from any of our different program areas at BCIT Business + Media. We offer both daytime “Full-Time” classes in the fall and winter terms, and “Flexible-Learning” classes year-round that take place in the evenings and on weekends. As a Study Abroad student you are able to mix and match your courses. We strongly recommend taking at least two of your courses from one Full-Time program for the best experience at BCIT. This will give you an opportunity to build relationships with domestic students.

If you don’t meet our general Study Abroad (Option 1) Entrance Requirements or are looking to further develop your English language skills, Study Abroad with Language Development is for you. Please note: Study Abroad with Language Development runs for two consecutive terms each year starting in the spring (April) and continuing into the fall (September) term.
During the first term you will take COMM 0004, COMM 0029, COMM 0005, and COMM 0030 (half term courses), and two entry level business courses of your choosing. See the available business courses for Study Abroad with Language Development:

After successfully completing the first term of Study Abroad with Language Development you will meet the general Study Abroad (Option 1) Entrance Requirements or IELTS 6.5 English level. In term two you will take COMM 1106 and three business courses of your choosing.
After selecting your courses through your chosen course selection method, record your selected courses in order of preference in the Study Abroad Course Selection form to submit with your application. Please note: course offerings are subject to change and Study Abroad students acquire credits, not a BCIT degree.

Class hours
Most courses are offered in the evening; a limited number of courses are offered during the day. Student schedules may have all evening classes or a mix of evening, day and weekend classes. Evening classes are typically scheduled between 5:30pm and 10:00pm.

Program Update
As of the Spring-Summer 2023 intake, students are now able to take courses from our School of Energy and School of Computing! Please note: Courses will only be available to students who meet course prerequisites. Students can take a maximum of two engineering or computing courses per term with the remaining being business focussed. For more information, please contact bcitstudyhere@bcit.ca.
Accommodation
At BCIT, we offer affordable On-Campus Housing options at our Burnaby Campus where you can live with other domestic and international students. Accommodation is limited so we recommend applying as soon as possible for the best chance at securing your room. More information for how to apply for housing will be provided once you’ve been accepted into the Business & Media Study Abroad program.

Medical Insurance
Medical insurance is mandatory while attending BCIT. Gaurd.me private medical insurance will be automatically added to your program tuition unless you opt out. To opt out, please email proof of medical insurance for the duration of your studies to isc_info@bcit.ca before the start of your program.
Life on Campus
As a BCIT student you will have access to our services on campus. These include free tutoring, recreation services such as a fitness centre and gym, access to counsellors and doctors on campus, and much more! We will provide more information on all of the services provided to you in your welcome orientation.

Travel to Canada
We understand that travelling to Canada during a global pandemic can be unpredictable and cause unexpected immediate changes to you travel plans. BCIT has developed a Travel to Canada Guide to provide up to date, accurate information. Please use this guide for planning your trip to Canada to plan for travel restrictions, study permits, quarantine plans, or vaccination requirements.
