Clinic Fees for Uninsured Services

Student Health Services charges fees for certain treatments, appointments, forms, and equipment.

Most of the services offered in the clinic are covered by your Medical Services Plan or provincial/territorial health plan, with the exception of Quebec, and will not require you to pay any fees.

If you miss or cancel your appointment without 24-hour advance notice, you may also be charged a cancellation fee.

All amounts are listed in Canadian dollars and may change without notice.

No-show or late cancellation	Fees for a no-show or cancellation less than 24 business hours in advance. Due before booking another appointment.	$30

International students

International students, or those without basic medical, are required to have basic medical coverage while studying in Canada. Students must apply for the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) when they arrive in British Columbia.

Please note that there’s a standard waiting time of 3 months and therefore you’re encouraged to enroll in temporary medical coverage (i.e. Guard.Me) until you become eligible for MSP. Learn more about your health insurance options as an international student.

Temporary medical insurance

If you have temporary medical insurance, you may be required to pay for the services and submit your receipts for reimbursement from your provider (ie. out-of-province healthcare, travel insurance, Guard.Me).

Quebec residents

If you’re a Quebec resident, you must pay the general clinic visit fee yourself, then submit your claim to your Quebec Medical Plan for reimbursement.

Please note that BCIT physicians CANNOT fill out the following forms:

Disability tax credit form: To qualify, you must have a “severe and prolonged impairment that restricts your ability to perform mental functions necessary for everyday life”. Visit the Disability Tax Credit website for more information.

Functional Abilities form: This form is typically used by employers to determine how to accommodate an ill or injured employee so they can remain at work or—if an absence is unavoidable—return to work as soon as it is medically safe to do so.
