Course Overview
This hands-on course is the next step in personal computer literacy after COMP 1002 - Applied Computer Concepts. It is aimed at students who are already proficient with a Windows 11 PC and able to manage files on a network, in the cloud. COMP 2010 is designed to provide proficiency in three key applications of MS Office: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Starting with short lectures and in class labs, participants will complete additional exercises and assignments outside of class, using a student version of MS Office 365 hosted by BCIT. Topics include essential skills in each of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. MS Access will also be used as a tool to demonstrate simple database design. Students use best practices to integrate data between Microsoft applications and to solve a wide range of productivity, communication, and collaboration tasks. They will be prepared to move on to the follow-on 6-week COMP 2362 MS Excel Advanced offered once per year in the April (spring) term. COMP 2010 is required in the Applied Computer Information Systems (ACIS) Associate Certificate. It is an elective in the Technical Writing Associate Certificate and the Computer Systems FLEX Diploma from BCIT Computing. Upon successful completion, students will be able to create, edit and manage cloud-based Microsoft documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
