Course Details

COMM 2320 is an applied course building on the skills learned in COMM 1120. The course will enable you to develop the persuasive writing and the presentation skills you will need to succeed in your program and at work.

  2. RESERVED: COMM 2320 is reserved for students in the Interior Design program. BEFORE YOU REGISTER, you must have a final grade of 70%+ in COMM 1120. If you proceed with the registration process without the prerequisite, you will be automatically dropped from this course without notice. BCIT refund schedule applies.*(A)*THIS IS NOT A SELF-PACED COURSE: There will be specific timelines for assignments and exams. You will have readings, discussions, peer review, and assignments to complete each week (although you do NOT have to be online at a particular time or on a particular day). Your weekly participation is essential to succeed in this course. *(B)*FINAL PRESENTATION: If you live within 100 km from BCIT, you must complete a team oral presentation in person at BCIT Burnaby Campus on Friday, November 27, 2020, from 1830 to 2130, without exception. If you live outside 100km from BCIT, you will need to be able to participate “virtually” in the final presentation and will also need to arrange “virtual meeting times” with your teammates and instructor as needed.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Present a technical oral proposal using Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Write an effective negative message.
  • Effectively compose a research statement.
  • Write and put together a professional, executive report.
  • Give an oral presentation.
  • Critically evaluate information to determine if it is accurate, relevant, and complete, and to use critical thinking to develop strong arguments.
