Overview
The part-time Digital Photography Associate Certificate offers essential skills in photo production and image optimization across just five courses. You'll master content creation using DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, and smartphones, along with image manipulation and software applications like Adobe Photoshop.
Eye-catching images visually represent a business’s brand and products, as greater emphasis is placed on marketing using social media platforms such as Instagram. As a result, the digital world is growing rapidly, with increasing demand for skills in:
- content creation, using DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, and new smartphones;
- image manipulation; and,
- various software applications, particularly Adobe Photoshop.
The Digital Photography Associate Certificate provides you with skills in photo production and image optimization. The courses build your proficiency using digital cameras to capture images and working with Adobe Photoshop to edit and optimize those images.

This program is designed for students who want to learn digital photography and photo manipulation.

- Courses delivered on-campus and online
You have the option of completing a separate course in Digital Portfolio Development to learn how to create a professional portfolio that will showcase your photography work to prospective clients and employers.

About Flexible Learning
Flexible Learning offers a variety of courses and programs in different delivery modes and locations to customize your learning at your own pace. You can review course prerequisites on our website and if you meet them, you’ll be able to register for that available course immediately. Some courses may require departmental approval or formal acceptance into the program. BCIT Flexible Learning courses are offered during the Winter (January), Spring/Summer (April), and Fall (September) terms.
Scheduled intakes
Ongoing Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) intakes: January, April, and September.
Entrance requirements
Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first-qualified basis as long as space remains.
- English language proficiency: Category 2 – English Studies 12 (67%) or equivalent
International applicants

Books & supplies
We recommend that students in the Digital Photography program have a MAC notebook or Windows PC. Costs for a computer will vary depending on the configuration chosen. Please see below for specifications.
