Course Overview
In an information-based society, every enterprise requires business analytics and decision support systems to enable a competitive advantage. As a result, knowledge workers across all industries increasingly require an understanding of data modelling and advanced data management and analytical techniques. Building off the foundational skills learned in BSYS-1000, this course leverages the Microsoft ecosystem, including Access, Excel and Power Query, Microsoft's data transformation and data preparation engine, to perform complex data management tasks. Advanced formulae, concepts, and data modelling theory will enable students to connect to various types of data to enable the analysis and presentation of data to enable business insight.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Solve financial/business problems using advanced formulae.
- Build a dynamic what-if business model that includes sensitivity analysis.
- Use correct data modelling terminology.
- Explain and illustrate the data modelling process using normalization.
- Analyze business data through single-source and multi-source queries.
- Employ built-in tools in Excel to analyze data using advanced criteria.
- Evaluate large datasets to extrapolate meaningful information to facilitate decision making.
- Present data analytics using pivot tables, charts, and other visualization techniques.
- Collaborate on the analysis and presentation of information using Microsoft 365.

- This course is worth 4.0 credits and carries a workload equivalent to two standard courses. It includes 48 contact hours and meets three times per week for 4 hours per session (2 hours of lecture and 2 hours of lab). In addition to scheduled class time, students should expect to spend approximately 4 hours per week completing homework. Attendance and active participation are strongly recommended.
