Course Details

​The Physics 12 Challenge Exam allows students to demonstrate the required physics knowledge and skills at the British Columbia grade 12 level. It covers material related to the topics of graphical methods, vectors, kinematics, dynamics, work, energy and power, momentum, equilibrium, circular motion, gravitation, electrostatics, electric circuits, electromagnetism. For more information on the topics tested refer to the PRESCRIBED LEARNING OUTCOMES pages on the following website - www.bced.gov.bc.ca/irp/pdfs/sciences/2006physics1112.pdf. Students must review their program entrance requirements to determine the minimum acceptable exam grade.

  1. ** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ CAREFULLY AND READ IN FULL BEFORE REGISTERING ** This exam will be written online. The online writing does not require students to be physically on campus. A computer with access to the internet is required. The exam instructor will communicate with students via BCIT’s Learning Hub therefore it is important that students sign on to the Learning Hub prior to the exam date to review any messages the instructor may have posted. The PHYS 0120 exam fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and MUST BE PAID AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. Non-payment upon registering will result in the student being dropped from the exam writing without prior notice and there is no guarantee the student will be allowed to re-register. Students can only write the exam ONCE. If a student registers and writes the exam a second time they will be given the mark from their first writing. The PHYS 0120 exam is designed for those students who are well versed in the topics covered in the BC Physics 12 curriculum and who previously scored a mark equivalent to or exceeding the mark required by their program of choice. The maximum time allowed to write this exam is 3 hours. A formula sheet will be included with the exam. To obtain information pertaining to topics tested refer to the PRESCRIBED LEARNING OUTCOMES pages on the following website - www.bced.gov.bc.ca/irp/pdfs/sciences/2006physics1112.pdf. No information will be provided to students regarding the format of the exam, there is no instructor support, no practice exam, no study materials and no study material suggestions or recommendations provided to students to prepare for the exam – students must do their own research for any study materials they may need to prepare for the exam. Exam grades will be available to students online through my.bcit.ca -> Student Self Service menu in the Check grades section within 2 weeks following the exam writing date. It is the STUDENT's responsibility to review their program entrance requirements to determine the minimum acceptable exam grade.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Meet the Physics 12 entrance requirement established by the program for which they are applying.
