Familiarizes the technical writer with formats and conventions of documents used in the construction industry. Also includes a review of basic English grammar and sentence structure as well as an introduction to public speaking. Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Create documents that follow the conventions of correct grammar, spelling, mechanics and punctuation.
  • Generate, draft, and revise a memorandum, short business letter, and facsimile following correct business conventions with respect to format, structure, style and content.
  • Make notes at job-site or office meetings, and then draft and revise an accurate record of such meetings following correct business conventions with respect to format, structure, style and content.
  • Prepare an agenda for a job-site or office meeting following correct business conventions with respect to format, structure, style, and content.
  • Communicate verbally with increased clarity and confidence.
