Overview
About the program
The Advanced Certificate in Bridging Medical Radiography is a program for Medical Radiation Technologists with a background in Medical Radiography and Computed Tomography, who trained either abroad or within Canada. This program is ideal for transitioning to Canadian healthcare, preparation for CAMRT certification, and upskilling in current clinical practices and medical imaging technology.
- Part-time, 8-month advanced certificate program
- 4 months of online academics, minimum of 20 hours of course work per week
- 1 month of in-person lab skills sessions and clinical preparation
- 8 weeks of clinical placement at sites across Canada, 40 hours per week

Application processing
Applications are accepted throughout the year with the intake option available during the following period:

Entrance requirements
This program has a two-step admission process. Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first-qualified basis after department review as long as space remains.
Step 1: Meet the following entrance requirements
- English language proficiency: Category 1 – English Studies 12 (73%) or equivalent
- Post-secondary education: diploma or degree in Medical Radiographic Technology within 5 years or with relevant clinical experience within 5 years of program start date
- Credential assessment deemed eligible to write the CAMRT National Certification Exam
- Letter of clinical employment detailing the scope of work and hours per week
- Complete the following form for submission with your online application:

All applications will be reviewed by the program area in order to be accepted to this program.
Clinical requirements
Students are required to complete an 8-week clinical placement. Location of the clinical placement will be determined based on availability of clinical sites across Canada with consideration of student preference. Students are required to demonstrate competency with a wide variety of exams in the General Radiology, Fluoroscopy, Operating Room, and Computed Tomography departments.
Recommended for success
To be successful in this program, students must be adaptable, self-motivated learners, committed to academic study and review of course materials in an accelerated format. Accepted students will be provided with resources and supporting materials in advance to assist with overall program success.

Our graduates are ready
BCIT’s expertise in practical, hands-on learning provides graduates with everything needed to start their career. Upon program completion, graduates are eligible to write the CAMRT national certification exam and start their job search.
Career opportunities
Most careers begin with casual, entry-level positions in hospitals and private clinics. Salaries start at approximately $28 per hour. Opportunities include:
- Certified X-ray technologist/general radiographer
- Equipment sales
- Education and teaching positions

Keep learning
Medical Radiography graduates can go on to complete BCIT’s MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging and the Bachelor of Health Sciences degree program).
Apply for graduation
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit it to Student Information and Enrolment Services.
Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.
All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
