Course Overview
This applied experiential skills lab will challenge learners to adapt and apply previous learning to realistic simulated medical imaging procedures identified in the CAMRT competency profile including a variety of common imaging encounters with simulated patients in General Radiography, Operating Room, mobile and CT environments, with a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrating exemplary patient care through respectful communication and genuine concern, learners will accurately assess patients for contraindications and appropriateness of requests, respond to patient questions and concerns, recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergent situations, document examination details and verify acquired data. Utilizing a variety of diagnostic imaging equipment and common accessory equipment, learners will demonstrate critical thinking and skill to achieve requirements of imaging exams with a high degree of accuracy, safety and efficiency in each of the previously mentioned environments including adherence to established methods of infection control and sterile techniques according to the CAMRT Scope of Practice.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements when performing exams in a variety of imaging environments and contexts including General Radiography, Fluoroscopy/c-arm, Mobile and CT exams
- Adapt examinations following assessment of patient’s physical, mental or psychological limitations to safely and efficiently achieve required imaging.
- Demonstrate effective and professional methods of communication with colleagues, staff and patients (simulated).
- Apply ethical principles when performing procedures according to CAMRT Competency Profile and Best Practice Guidelines.
- Apply methods to identify gaps in knowledge and or/skills to improve practice (eg. Self –reflection, peer feed back, self-study, practice, etc.).
- Operate and maintain equipment in a manner that prevents damage/downtime, minimizes dose to patient/personnel and optimizes diagnostic images.
- Apply theory and best practices to peripheral intravenous (PIV) insertion.
- Utilize power injector pump according to policy guidelines and best practices.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies involving equipment and/or patients.
- Recognize and respond to findings on images.
- Record and verify relevant exam details in EMR and PACS.
- Contribute to a physically and psychologically safe learning/working environment.
