Please note that this page is about the Flexible Learning Instructors PD Day which has been curated specifically for BCIT Flexible Learning faculty not the general All-staff PD Day scheduled for June 8, 2023.
Emerging Technologies in Higher Ed.
Welcome to the future
Emerging technologies come fast and furious, without warning, and can affect how we do everyday things – on a global scale. When new technologies have a transformational impact on our lives in the way we work and play, they are considered to be ‘disruptive’. The introduction of the personal computer, the internet, affordable smartphones, and the advent of the Internet of Things (internet-enabled appliances), amongst others, are disruptive technologies that have changed the state of modern living worldwide within the last 40 years. So, what’s next?
In becoming familiar with new technologies, Flexible Learning faculty can better prepare their students for future jobs and ensure they have the skills and competencies needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. We recognize that resources and support are needed for all BCIT instructors to take advantage of the benefits that these new technologies offer, while mitigating the potential for misuse. Many new technologies can be utilized to support course instruction, can help to develop improved course content, better lesson plans, and ultimately provide our students with a more engaging and meaningful learning experience. We just need to be shown how.
Flexible Learning Instructors PD Day
New technologies will inevitably lead to changes to the state of practice in teaching and learning. A variety of pedagogical and practical topics in education have been included in this year’s Flexible Learning Instructors PD Day program. View the detailed session information [PDF]
Topic suggestions from the Flexible Learning Instructors PD Day questionnaire results have also been scheduled for this year’s event. Download the event schedule [PDF]
We have been challenged to organize something of interest for the majority of our Flexible Learning instructors. We will depend on your feedback
