Course Overview
Building owners and managers are increasingly asked to make decisions that balance carbon reduction, climate resilience, financial performance, asset condition, operational requirements, occupant needs, and organizational priorities. This course equips learners with the knowledge and decision-making framework needed to navigate these complex trade-offs and confidently select the most appropriate course of action for a specific building asset. Throughout the course, learners will follow the process used to develop a project-level business case, from understanding the existing asset and defining project objectives, through evaluating alternative intervention strategies, to recommending a preferred solution and planning its implementation. Rather than focusing on the detailed engineering design of building systems, the course emphasizes how to interpret technical studies, evaluate options using transparent and defensible criteria, and translate technical information into sound business decisions. By the end of the course, learners will have developed a project business case that demonstrates how climate mitigation and adaptation measures can be integrated into capital planning in a way that delivers long-term business value and aligns with organizational goals.
