Course Overview
The central concept of protecting electrical systems is to apply the most effective equipment to ensure full coverage of a power system and provide backup protection where necessary. This course is intended for professionals working in the electrical industry who wish to develop skills in applying components and systems to protect the electrical system. The course is based on hands-on learning, using software to demonstrate the fundamentals of electrical protection and the different components of a protection system. Topics include digital relays, overcurrent protection systems, redundant protection systems, and differential protection systems. Labs will be based on using PSCAD and ETAP software. Instruction on using the software will be provided during the lab periods. The course addresses concepts in the design of power system protection equipment.
