Course Overview
This course is designed for aspiring editors, content creators, and filmmakers. Whether you're interested in cutting cinematic films, corporate videos, or social media content, this course gives you the exposure to creative and technical tools needed to bring your ideas to life. You will acquire the skills to build successful edited sequences to export as compressed video files for use on various online media platforms. You will learn how to use a variety industry standard software. The main focus being Adobe Premiere Pro to edit class projects. An intro to Adobe Dynamic Link to understand workflow between other Adobe products such as After Effects and Photoshop, and a preview to DaVinci Resolve to further develop skills for color grading. By the end of the course, students will have knowledge and confidence to edit their own content for various media platforms and be able to pursue more education in Advanced Editing.
Prerequisite(s)
- Students enrolled in the cohort model must achieve a minimum grade of 50% in BCST 1107 to take this course and progress to subsequent term courses with this as a prerequisite.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to
- Organize and optimize workflows with media management, editing pipelines, to ensure an efficient process when working across various platforms.
- Create engaging edits by understanding timeline editing, audio mixing, working with text, essential graphics and export workflows for different social platforms.
- Integrate Adobe Dynamic link to work between Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop applications.
- Apply basic level colour correction, grading, and finishing techniques to edits using Lumetri in Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve.
- Analyze storytelling techniques, pacing, scene transitions, sound syncing, and the art of the cut.
