Course Overview
This course will rotate students through the cardiology department of various hospital professional labs and doctor’s offices to obtain clinical experience in electrocardiogram review, ambulatory ECG analysis, exercise tolerance testing, and continued patient care skills.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Interact and communicate professionally with patients, technologists, physicians, and all other allied health professionals.
- Apply theory knowledge to obtain patient history and adequate patient assessment before cardiac procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment.
- Record electrocardiograms and review the recording and analysis of electrocardiograms.
- Apply AECG monitors, instruct the patient, and disconnect the recorder at the end of recording.
- Apply theory knowledge to the performance of AECG monitor scanning techniques.
- Apply theory knowledge to the performance of exercise tolerance testing techniques and procedures.
- Observe cardiac device implant procedures.
- Observe pacemaker assessment and programming.
- Apply knowledge of the indications of pacing.
- Describe the various pacing modes/timing cycles.
- Describe functional non-capture and non-sensing.
- Apply knowledge and analysis skills in normal/abnormal pacemaker rhythm.
- Describe functional non-capture and non-sensing.
- Identify indications and contraindications for the use of a magnet.
- Observe the assessment of lead placement at implant.
- Apply theory knowledge of patient care skills and maintain universal precautions.
- Perform computer skills; understand management systems and informatics.
- Maintain patient care skills and practice universal precautions.
- Practice proper documentation and reporting of all cardiac procedures.
- Apply professional standards, ethics, and legalities.
- Comply with the facility (clinical sites) and BCIT policies.
- Apply effective communication skills in the clinical environment.
- Demonstrate ability to self-evaluate performance and set goals for improvement.
